The Auxiliary is the volunteer program of the hospital. It is composed of local residents who donate their time and talents working for patients and their families at White County Medical Center.
Auxiliary members give over 30,000 hours of service to the hospital every year. They provide assistance in admitting, in the cafeteria, and in materials management. Auxiliary members work at information desks throughout the hospital. They also provide the guest services cart.
The Auxiliary operates the hospital’s gift shops. All of the money earned by the shops is returned to WCMC through scholarships, equipment, and other needed items. The Auxiliary:
donated $40,000 to help the hospital purchase a PulseCheck systemfor the emergency department. This information system combines triage, patient tracking, physician and nursing documentation, prescription writing and other data. It helps the emergency department be more efficient by making it paperless and combining information. Orders are sent directly from the physician to lab, x-ray, and other hospital departments.
purchased over 40 new wheelchairs for the hospital.
gave $5,000 to furnish the VIP room in the inpatient hospice unit.
purchased three display boards for the Arts in the Hospital program.
sponsored an effort to provide school supplies to needy area children.
created a scholarship endowment to provide yearly scholarships to 15 area students entering fields of study related to healthcare.
