WCMC Plans 14th Annual A Day of Caring
Jun 29, 2010

White County Medical Center is planning the 14th Annual A Day of Caring to be held Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to Noon in the Ganus Athletic Center on the campus of Harding University.

A Day of Caring is a community-wide outreach program that is designed to help the uninsured and underinsured residents of White County. Free medical, dental and eye screenings will be provided; additional services available include haircuts, immunizations and pap exams. Items such as school supplies, food, Bibles, socks, underwear, diapers and personal care products will also be distributed. Various health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, and social service information will be provided.

For children and teens, the 17th Annual Shots for Tots and Teens will be held in conjunction with A Day of Caring. A parent or guardian should bring the child’s shot record in order to receive immunizations.

Rheumatologist Ricardo Alvillar, M.D., with Searcy Medical Center and physician on staff at White County Medical Center, participated for the first time at last year’s event.

“As a Christian, I believe it’s important to volunteer my time and God-given talents to benefit others,” he said. “It was great to see so many people come together from medical and non-medical fields, to help so many people. Plus, it was great to see other doctors and a fellow medical missionary helping, too.”

Dr. Alvillar’s commitment to helping others is demonstrated by his service on medical mission trips to Guatemala. He has been three times in the past year, and now he is looking forward to volunteering again at A Day of Caring.

Partnerships between WCMC and community businesses and organizations such as the Junior Auxiliary of Searcy, along with hundreds of nurses, WCMC associates and volunteers throughout Searcy are vital to the success of this outreach program. Thanks to the more than 600 volunteers and 30 corporate sponsors, 1,600 people received services at A Day of Caring.

A Day of Caring is sponsored by ARAMARK, ASU-Beebe/ASU-Searcy, Arthur’s Beauty College, CARTI, Chesapeake Energy, Cool 104, Covenant Fellowship, Crain Media, Family Practice Associates, First Community Bank, First Security Bank, First Southern Bank, First United Methodist Church Thrift Shop, Harding University, Liberty Bank, Mayfair Solutions, Medical Center Pharmacy, NorthStar EMS, Regions Bank, Sam’s Club Distribution Center, Searcy Medical Center, Searcy Radio Group, The Daily Citizen, Three Rivers Edition, Walmart Distribution Center, Walmart Supercenter, White County Community Foundation, White County Medical Center and the WCMC Auxiliary.
