An estimated 10 to 30 percent of adults snore. For most people, this has no serious medical consequences. However, for an estimated 5 in 100 people, loud snoring is the first indication of a potentially life-threatening sleep disorder. White County Medical Center’s sleep study program is educating patients about sleep disorders and helping many people in the community receive a better night’s rest.
Besides snoring, some of the warning signs of sleep disorders include witnessed pauses in breathing, frequent awakenings, excessive leg kicking during sleep, insomnia, night sweats, daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, and morning headaches. If you are experiencing these symptoms, talk to your physician about a sleep study.
The Sleep Lab at White County Medical Center has hotel-style rooms. During the study, a credentialed sleep technician monitors your brain waves, heartbeat, leg movements, muscle activity, and breathing to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.
